Its known at this point that WordPress 5.5 introduced some jQuery changes ( we will not go into great technical detail here ) which introduced issues with plugins and themes that were not updated quickly for such changes or are too old to have been updated to something compliant with WP’s 5.5 version.
You will see these errors in the following forms :
- suddenly your WordPress admin area behaves weird in the sense of not showing submenus when hovering, clicking buttons not actually performing the click, accordions and tabs not expanding etc. Basically things that you do on the WordPress admin which do not refresh the page ( but rather use AJAX ) when performed don’t work as expected. To see such actual error codes and info, you need to use your web browser’s JS console.
- the front end of your website behaves weird in the similar manner with the admin area, not showing submenus when hovering, clicking buttons not actually performing the click, accordions and tabs not expanding etc.
The first response to this should be to install this official plugin Enable jQuery Migrate Helper which is supposed ( and does it well ) to bring back what was gone in terms of jQuery. There is a very good chance this plugin solves your issue.
If the plugin does not solve the issue try the following :
- check if you got cache enabled on the site, clear the website’s cache or clear and then disable it for a bit, then test the site again
- make sure you clear your browser’s cache also before you test the site
If the issue persists, then the problem must be deeper with your WordPress website and you must investigate more 🙁
